PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION
Construction of new pipelines and replacement of existing ones are frequently the types of projects that Deltech Engineering is contracted to perform environmental consulting and engineering. These pipelines projects are sometimes to remove and replace existing waterlines, sewers, or fuel pipes or construction of new ones, and in either case Deltech Engineering will perform the excavation of the trenches along delineated locations for installation of the pipelines or to expose the existing pipelines for cutting/removal. And the excavation of such trenches will sometimes involve the removal, sampling/testing, handling, including disposal of contaminated/hazardous soils or other materials along the length of the pipeline. Deltech Engineering has extensive experience with these types of projects. An example of such pipeline projects that Deltech Engineering was a part of was the Upper Narrows Pipeline construction and replacement project for the Victor Valley Water Reclamation Authority in Victorville, CA., for which Deltech Engineering provided the environmental management, including handling, sampling/testing, removal and disposal of all contaminated/hazardous soil for the project.
HIGHWAY EXPANSION
The California Department of Transportation has been engaged in several massive Roadway Expansion Projects in California in the last 10 years, several of which Deltech Engineering has been fortunate to contract for, especially in the most recent years. Deltech Engineering is currently working on the CALTRANS Expansion/Repairs of the I-5 Freeway, I-805 Freeway and the I-8 in SAN Diego, CA., responsible for the management, handling and removal/disposal of all ADL Contaminated Hazardous Soil excavated to widen the freeway. Deltech Engineering is also one of the team of construction engineering firms performing the Stormwater Mitigation construction at various locations along Highway 126 in Santa Paula, California.
PUBLIC PARK CONSTRUCTION
Deltech Engineering is currently working with another contractor on the Albion Riverside Park project, a Proposition O, Proposition 84 and Proposition K Water Quality Improvement Project, which also finances the creation of new parks and recreation facilities for underserved California communities.
The six (6) acre triangle-shaped site is adjacent to the Los Angeles River, north of Main Street and south of Spring Street. The site is bordered by Albion Street to the southeast, by the existing Downey Park to the north, and by railroad tracks to the west. The overall objective of this project is to develop the project site and implement Low Impact Development (LID), Green Infrastructure, and Best Management Practice (BMP) measures to improve the water quality of Stormwater prior to discharging into the Los Angeles River and ultimately into the Pacific Ocean. In addition to collecting, treating and infiltrating onsite runoff, the project will divert Stormwater and dry weather flows from an existing storm drain.
The diverted flows will be treated and infiltrated or used within the park.
Recreational amenities at the site will include multi-purpose athletic fields, walking paths, adult fitness zones, children’s play area, picnic area, a new parking lot with permeable paving, site landscaping and a plaza.
Because of past uses and activities on the site as well as some naturally occurring petroleum hydrocarbons that are known to be present in the groundwater and geologic formations below this portion of the City, there has been some contamination identified over the years as well as some prior remediation activities that have occurred at the site. Deltech Engineering has the responsibility for the remediation and disposal of the contamination at this site as the construction activities continues.
RAILROAD GRADE SEPARATION
Railroad Grade Bridge Separation projects are undertaken to improve safety and expedite the movement of vehicles by eliminating highway-rail crossing at grade with a grade separation. Grade separation means a structure which separates the vehicle roadway from the railroad tracks. Deltech Engineering continues to be a firm that contracts on Railroad Grade Bridge Separation projects, most recently on the Lakeview Avenue Railroad Grade Separation project and the State College Boulevard Railroad Grade Separation project, providing the Environmental Management, including handling, removal and disposal of all contaminated/hazardous waste on the projects for the duration of the projects.
